As you know, Fr Solanus Casey OFM Cap is going to be beatified on November 18th in Detroit, Mi. We continue to hope and pray that he will someday be canonized a saint in the church.
Our parish has been connected to Fr Solanus, not only because he is a Capuchin, but also because he celebrated his first Mass here on July 31, 1904. St. Joseph has a statue and beautiful biblical garden dedicated to him next to the church. The parish is invited to celebrate his life at our Masses on the weekend of July 29-30. It will provide the opportunity to explain what made this simple friar such an outstanding example of holiness.
On the weekend of July 1 & 2, Amber Kraft did a Mission Appeal in behalf of the work of the Salesian Sisters in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Besides sharing with us the work that goes on in their orphanage and school, she asked for our financial support. You have been very generous. So far we have collected $8,733.00. May God reward you for your compassion for the poor.

Bishop David Ricken has asked every Parish in the diocese to schedule a monthly holy hour before the Blessed Sacrament. This practice is part of his pastoral plan that will focus on PRAYER for the next two years. Our next Holy Hour will be Friday, August 4 following the 12:05 Mass. The Blessed Sacrament will be placed on the altar and there will be prayers, scripture readings, and time for silent reflection.
Holy Hours and Benediction used to be popular devotions in parishes. It has been a while since we've held them at St. Joe's. Presumably, this is the case elsewhere. in bringing back this devotion, we hope many will find this as a means to appreciating the Eucharist and increasing our prayer life.
